Authorities in Sudanese West Kordofan State on Tuesday launched a project aimed at supporting more than 32,000 poor families including orphaned children with basic needs.

Authorities in Sudanese West Kordofan State on Tuesday launched a project aimed at supporting more than 32,000 poor families including orphaned children with basic needs.

Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Salam, the state minister of social welfare told Radio Tamazuj that most families have been left homeless by the recent floods, creating a humanitarian crisis in the region.

He added that the number of orphans has risen to about 800 in the state’s 9 localities.

The official said the project will provide the families and orphans basic needs for the next five months.
