The Chinese oil worker kidnapped last week was freed by security agents Thursday, as they arrested key suspects in Monday’s murder of a Sudanese engineer in West Kordofan.
The Chinese oil engineer had been abducted at Kareem area near Beleila oilfield. Sudanese engineer Abdel-Karim Kabo was killed and his driver wounded at Zarqa Um Hadid field.
Sudan’s petroleum minister Makkawi Mohamed Awad said in a statement to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) today that the security agents managed to reach the perpetrators and free the Chinese hostage after days of investigation.
He said the engineer’s car that was taken by the criminals was found at Ghibesh area.
The minister commended the West Kordofan government and security agents and reiterated his government’s commitment to protect all its investors and employees in oil sector.
