Western Equatoria state Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba Friday imposed a dawn to dusk curfew in Yambio county to curb rising insecurity.
The decree seen by Radio Tamazuj states: “Any unauthorized person found carrying guns will be arrested and investigated. Markets, shops, clubs, disco places, and bodaboda must stop to operate from 8 PM to 6 AM.”
The order, however, did not specify repercussions for those found in violation.
Governor Futuyo also ordered all forces to go to their barracks or cantonment sites, saying no soldier is allowed to reside in residential areas.
“We issued the order on curfew yesterday (Saturday) because Tambura has been on unrest, we said Yambio should not be like that. So we have issued the curfew and it will continue till further notice so that we will collect all those criminals one by one because I ordered the organized forces not to be silent on this issue," he told Radio Tamazuj.
The governor further revealed that on Saturday night, security forces arrested three armed suspects in Yambio town.
There have been increased cases of targeted attacks, especially on senior government officials in the past weeks in Yambio town.
