South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State governor on Independence Day visited the sick at the Yambio State Hospital and donated some food and non-food items.

Accompanied by other state officials and state organised forces, Governor Alfred Futuyo said the sick have always been forgotten and isolated during national celebrations.

“Because all the time we celebrate as South Sudanese, we decorate the Freedom Square with colors and flowers buy soda and other things. But we forget the sick people, they are also South Sudanese, that is why we said this time we have to come and celebrate with them here in the hospital,” he said.

Governor Futuyo also contributed some food and non-food items including, sugar, salt, and cleaning items to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the state health minister James Abdullah appreciated the initiative by the state government and said such initiatives should continue.

Simon Mandiriwa, a patient at the hospital appreciated the visit but urged the governor to provide food and medicines in the health facility.

“We are suffering now, no food, no drugs, we have to buy them at the clinic. Since yesterday we have not had any food but now we can take tea because the governor has brought us some sugar. People are suffering in this hospital,” he complained.

Moreover, Governor Futuyo urged the people of Western Equatoria State to overcome the many challenges and unite for the development of the state saying no stranger will bring development there.
