The spokesman of the state government in Yambio has questioned who killed an officer in the wildlife service in Mundri market in “mysterious circumstances” on Sunday, saying that the officer was in an area secured by SPLA troops when he was killed.
Western Equatoria Information Minister Charles Kisanga wrote in a statement yesterday that the wildlife officer has been identified as 1st Lieutenant Yamis Marko. His body has been taken toward his hometown Wau for burial.
“Lt Yamis Marko again died under mysterious circumstances because he and his body guard were gunned down in an area secured by the Army while the WES Commander of the SPLA was in meeting with commissioner in the middle of Mundri town,” said Kisanga.
He questioned, “Why did the soldiers not shoot the rebel or civilian who gunned the officer down since they were no more than about 20 meters away?”
Kisanga also said that the situation in Mundri has calmed down since shooting last Friday and the Sunday shooting, but noted that “civlians are still scared of the SLA unit in the area and that is why they are not returning.”
