W. Equatoria governor agrees to appear before presidency

Western Equatoria State Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba on Monday said he is ready to appear before the presidency following a summon last week.

Western Equatoria State Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba on Monday said he is ready to appear before the presidency following a summon last week.

Last Friday the presidency summoned Alfred Futuyo Karaba and his deputy Kennedy Gaaniko over their recent political fallout. Last week, the state government was left in turmoil after Deputy Governor, Gaanika announced that he had, along with a host of state ministers from the SPLM, SSOA, and FDs, withdrawn from participating in the state government.

Gaaniko and his group accused the governor of suspending the regular council of ministers meetings indefinitely to dodge questions over the alleged reduction of civil servants’ salaries. However, the members of the SSOA and FDs later distanced themselves from the deputy governor’s claims.

Governor Futuyo however refuted the allegations and accused his deputy and the state’s director general of finance of conspiring against him to cover up the embezzlement of funds from the state coffers.

When asked about the summoning, the governor said he is ready to appear in Juba to answer any questions.

“In the world, there is no one who can reject the call of his Father,” Governor Futuyo said. “We are waiting for the official letter and I am ready to go for what they called me for.”

He also slammed the committee that was formed to investigate the crisis in Western Equatoria State for not performing their duties.

“The other issue is that all the time when there is a problem in Western Equatoria State, committees are not coming to investigate,” he said. “Since there was a committee formed for the issue of this state, why are they not coming to observe what happened? If it is the issue of calling the governor, I am ready to go because there is nothing wrong with it.”
