The governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Monday waived the requirement for Sudanese nationals to pay for visas and all other related immigration fees while entering and living in the state.
Governor Sarah Cleto Rial announced the order on Monday while addressing the Muslim community during the Eid al Fitr celebrations in Wau town.
She disclosed that there have been a lot of complaints about the issue of immigration and related costs in the state and declared that Sudanese will not have to pay any fees.
“Our brothers or relatives from Sudan have been exempted from paying any (immigration) fees. They will not pay any fees, not even 1000 SSP,” Governor Cleto declared to ululations from Sudanese traders.
She said the other foreigners will still have to pay immigration fees for now but have to be patient.
“To our people, especially the foreigners, this is your home. All the other foreigners, you still have to pay the (immigration) fees but please be patient,” she added.
The governor said her office was open to receiving any complaints.
“My office and that of my deputy are always open. There are some issues which are not reaching directly to me or my deputy but we have 17 ministries that can be contacted to address them,” Cleto said.
She urged all foreigners in Wau to feel free and live in harmony with the local community.
