The police professional standard unit in Western Bahr el Ghazal State said they have apprehended two suspected criminals who have been accused of violent crimes including murder, rape, and aggravated robberies in the areas of Udici, Kangi, Alelthony, and Bahr-Urud in the Jur River County.
Major Natalie Uguak, the state deputy director of the police standards unit, told Radio Tamazuj that a murder suspect identified as Udom Ajieth Ugol and one Achuil Bol who is accused of aggravated rape have both been arrested and now in custody. He said the duo is accused of perpetrating several other crimes in the area.
“In March 2021 this year, several crimes were committed by armed men in military uniforms in Kangi, Udici, Bahr-Urud, Kayongo, and Alelthony, in Wau North generally. Among these people was Udom Ajieth Ugol, a former SPLA sergeant, who pretended to be a Brigadier General in SPLA-IO after he killed a person called Nyipatho Athain Lony,” Maj. Uguak said.
He said the arrested suspects have been on the run since March last year when warrants were issued for their apprehension for capital offenses.
“When Udom Ajieth killed a person called Nyipatho Athian Lony, he ran away and was hiding in the cantonment site the opposition (SPLS-IO) but after he committed another crime there, he ran away again and returned to the area where he was arrested,” Maj. Uguak said. “They are have committed different crimes including murder. We arrested Udom in Kangi for a crime of murdering a person and Achuil Bol for rape.”
The police officer said they are still hunting for the three other criminals including a self-styled SPLA-IO General identified as ‘Brigadier’ Philip Piel Ajak whose forces clashed with forces loyal to a renegade SPLA-IO Lt. General Andrea Mayar Mayar.
“We have now arrested Achuil Bol and his case is now being taken to court because his crime is a bit minor. We still have cases on other criminals including Philip Piel Ajak who is now parading as a Brigadier of the SPLA-IO and yet he is not an officer of SPLA-IO. He has killed many people in Wau North, including the recent killings in Bahr-Urud,” Maj Uguak said.
He called on the community members who have been victims of the criminals to come forward and open cases against them.
