A soldier from the South Sudan People’s Defense Force’s (SSPDF) Fourth Infantry Division on Monday night shot and killed four people in Atido Boma of Jur River County in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
The Jur River County commissioner, Nicola Thiep Wol, told Radio Tamazuj that the soldier identified as Agoga Manyuat based in Unity State killed four of his relatives over adultery.
“At night, information reached me that there is a crime of murder in Atido. What happened is that there was this soldier from Bentiu who asked for leave and came with his weapon. He came and spent time at his home with his wife and relatives,” Commissioner Wol explained. “At night, his wife left the house as if she was going out to help herself but the woman delayed and he followed her with his gun. He found her under a tree with another man, the son of his uncle. The wife ran away but the soldier (Manyuat) shot and killed the man she was with, his cousin.”
He said that the rampaging soldier then proceeded to the home of the man he killed and murdered both his parents and an uncle of the latter.
“He went to the home of the cousin he killed, found the mother of the deceased, and shot and killed her. He also killed the father and an uncle of the deceased. So, he killed four people from one home,” Commissioner Wol said.
Wol said the killer soldier has been apprehended and a case opened against him pending further investigations.
“As of now, we have arrested the killer and the case has been opened pending investigations. The killer is called Agoga Manyuat,” he said.
