Members of Western Bahr el Ghazal State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed a vote of no confidence against Speaker Andrea Mayar, after a motion raised by Abraham Dimo Cirilo.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj following the impeachment vote, Dimo said the sitting was attended by 34 of 42 members. Meanwhile, security was tightened during the sitting in which the speaker was impeached, according to the lawmaker.
He said the impeached speaker was present during the sitting and that he tabled the motion for deliberation, but later walked out before the vote.
Explaining the vote, the MP cited the speaker’s “persistent” absenteeism from parliament.
The move was taken in accordance to Article 65 (1) of the state Transitional Constitution 2011, which gives powers to the MPs to elect and remove their leaders within the assembly supported by article 90 of the conduct of business regulations of the assembly, according to Dimo.
