The minister of education in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal state confirmed the suspension of dozens of teachers.

Minister Michael Madut Chan told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that 110 teachers were dismissed after they failed to fulfil requirements set by the state ministry of labour and public service.

However, he said that about 58 teachers have recent been reinstated after completing their employment files.

Madut said the ministry has considered recruiting new teachers to fill the gap. He added that they presented a report on the matter to the state cabinet for approval.

“We have announced new vacancies for teachers including the veteran teachers if they have the required papers,” he said.

On 20 October, several suspended teachers told Radio Tamazuj that they were stopped from teaching almost a month ago without any clear reasons.
