Vice President James Wani Igga arrived in Kajo-Keji, Central Equatoria State, for an official visit, just days after an attack on a police station in the county.

Igga was accompanied by national agriculture deputy minister Lily Albino Akol and Central Equatoria State Deputy Governor Manasseh Lomole Waya, who said the county was lucky to have a son of the state as Vice President of the Republic.

During his visit to Kajo-Keji, which is near the Ugandan border, Vice President James Wani Igga addressed a crowd at Freedom Square. He told the residents that he conveyed greetings from President Kiir Mayardit who was planning to visit the county in the near future.

As quoted by the Catholic Radio Network, the vice president said that he was like John the Baptist, preparing the way for the Messiah to come.

The president’s visit to the town would be his first trip outside of Juba since the start of the national crisis two months ago.

Igga’s visit comes after a police station in Wudu town of Kajo-Keji County was set on fire on Friday night by a gang of angry youth. The attack destroyed 11 motorbikes, 3 bicycles, and files within the station

Kajo-Keji has been undergoing an army recruitment drive led by mobilization delegate Brigadier-General Abraham Wani. The citizens of the area are urged to mobilize their sons for the national army.
