Two of South Sudan Vice President Wani Igga's bodyguards were shot and killed in an ambush on Wednesday by gunmen along the Juba-Lobonok road.

The two men killed were identified as First Lieutenant John Jada Wani Laku and Clement Morbe.

Kalisto Ladu, spokesman of the country’s vice president, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the incident also resulted in the killing of a woman.

Ladu pointed out that two other bodyguards sustained injured and other four survived the ambush.

“The vehicle was coming from Lobonok to Juba. The attack occurred near Juba after an attack by unknown criminals,” he said.

Vice President James Wani was not in the vehicle when gunmen opened fire on his bodyguards.

Kalisto said the attackers looted the travellers’ properties after the incident, pointing out that the wounded people had been taken to hospital for treatment.

“The three people killed were returned to Lobonok for burial,” he said.
