A vocational training institute in Yambio county of Western Equatoria State has started producing locally-made fabric face masks to help prevent the spread of coronavirus among the population.
Kirima Justin Agustino, the principal of Yambio Multipurpose Vocation Training Institute, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that production started on Monday with 200 face masks daily.
He further said a total of 50 tailors have been already been recruited and their target is to manufacture 20,000 face masks in two weeks.
Kirima said the initiative is being supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and South Sudan’s Health ministry.
According to the principle, the reusable masks will be distributed to health workers, organized forces, traders, boda-boda operators, drivers and those at risk of contracting coronavirus.
South Sudan currently has 90 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
