Vitamin A and deworming campaign underway in Bor

A four-day vitamin A and deworming immunization campaign is ongoing in Bor town of Jonglei State.

The campaign, which kicked off on Monday, targets children aged between 0-5 years in the area.

Dr. Samuel Majur, the director-general in the state ministry of health, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the drive aims at giving immunity and providing flood-affected children in Bor and other counties of Jonglei with protection against worm.

“This vaccination is for all the children from 0 to 59 months. We are targeting all the children in the 9 counties of Jonglei. Giving deworming tablets is necessary because diarrhea is rampant among children in Jonglei due to the floods,” he said.

The health official pointed out that the drive will be extended to all the areas in Jonglei, and urged the parents to take their children for vaccination.

Dr. Bol Chaw, the medical director of Bor State hospital, said the oral vaccines are safe, and urged all the families to immunize their children, saying it will help boost their immunity from early childhood diseases.
