VP Igga roots for disarmament in Warrap

Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga has recommended serious civilian disarmament in Warrap State to reduce the cases of insecurity perpetrated by the armed youth.

South Sudan’s Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga has recommended serious civilian disarmament in Warrap State to reduce the cases of insecurity perpetrated by the armed youth.

“Number one is, let the people be disarmed. See Lakes State now, it has been disarmed, and I think it is like heaven on earth,” he said.

Speaking on Thursday during the swearing of SPLM’s Warrap State officials at the SPLM house in Juba, VP Igga appealed to local leaders to defend peace at all cost.

Those sworn in during the ceremony included Governor Kuol Muor Mour and George Andrea Juma as advisor of Popular Syndicate Organizations (SPLM).

Dr. Igga said SPLM’s original dream, which is to maintain peace and development should be the rallying call for unity amongst leaders.

“Without peace, SPLM won’t be able to achieve those other goals. One of our dream is security, as long as there’s no security, all the other things are meaningless,” Igga said.

VP Igga urged Governor Kuol to ensure peace is realized in his state, which he termed as ‘the currently unsecure state in South Sudan’.

“Your state comrade Koul is the most hit of all the states, by our people and by our own people not outsiders,” he said.

VP Igga said runaway insecurity across the country should be tamed through peace efforts.

His concerns relate to the recent spike in violence in Warrap State pitting the Ngok Dinka of Abyei Administrative Area and Twic Mayardit of Warrap State.

VP Igga commended Lakes States Governor Rin Tuny Mabor for bringing peace in his state, saying peace can only be realized with proper security arrangements.
