A victim of firing by security forces during the demolition drive around Rumbek Secondary School in Rumbek town succumbed to his injuries, a hospital administrator said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, one person was killed on the spot and two others injured when military men deployed to supervise the demolition exercise fired warning shots to disperse protesters.
Mawet Bol, an administrator at Rumbek State Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that one of the protesters shot during the demolition exercise at Akuac residential area on Tuesday died of gunshot wounds.
“Mangar who was shot in the stomach and the other one who was shot in the mouth, were brought to Rumbek State hospital for treatment, but the surgical operation for Mangar was unsuccessful because the bullet damaged the liver and intestines,” he said.
“The other person who sustained mouth gunshots is still receiving treatment, and his wounds are not serious,” he added.
Meanwhile, Daniel Laat Kon, a civil society activist in Lakes State, said: “It is very unfortunate; I received the bad news of Mangar’s death. I went to the hospital to confirm and found him dead.”
He said the whereabouts of the seven protesters arrested by the security forces during the demolition exercise remain unknown.
