Mathok, also a member of parliament representing Warrap State on the ticket of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), was undergoing treatment after heart surgery on February 22.

The information minister of Warrap State, where the late hailed, William Wol Mayom told Radio Tamazuj that Gen. Mathok’s death is a great loss to the entire nation.

“It is a great loss to the people of Warrap State and South Sudan in general because General Mathok Gengdit was a hard-working general and politician and a patriotic leader who actually put some impact in the government of Warrap state when he was a caretaker governor of Warrap,” said Wol.

Moreover, the national assembly’s Standing Specialised Committee on Defence and Veteran Affairs released a statement confirming the death of Mathok, a member of the committee.
