Peter Mabor Bol, one of the most senior members of the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, has passed away at the age of 65, the assembly’s speaker confirmed.
Speaker Amer Ateny Alier told Radio Tamazuj that Hon. Mabor Bol died on Sunday after a prolonged battle with tuberculosis. She added that funeral arrangements are being discussed by the family, with plans still being made for his burial.
“Hon. Mabor Bol passed away in Juba on Sunday. His family is deciding whether his burial will take place in Juba, Bor, or Yuai,” she said.
Kuol Bol Ayom, a lawmaker representing Athooc North Constituency, expressed his shock at the loss. “The death of Mabor Bol is a great loss to all of Jonglei State. He was an experienced and respected MP who always guided the assembly through proper procedures. When he spoke, his words carried weight, and everyone listened. It is truly a significant loss not to have him among us,” Ayom remarked.
Hon. Mabor Bol had been representing Constituency No. 15 of Uror County in the state assembly since 2010. In addition to his role as a legislator, he had served in several positions in the defunct Bieh State, including as the commissioner of Uror County and as the minister of finance.
