A local official in South Sudan’s Boma State resigned from his position, citing lack of services in the area.
Boma State is one of the administrative units which came into existence in fulfilment of the October 2, 2015, presidential establishment order.
Vertet County Commissioner Joseph Giro told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that he resigned on 23 August due to lack of services to facilitate his work as a county commissioner.
The former local official said he didn’t have a car to facility his movement in the county, pointing out that over 17 people died due to suspected cholera outbreak and two women died while giving birth in his County last month due lack of hospitals.
“If I had some services in my county like educate, hospital and vehicles to facilitate my work and security in the County then I should have not resigned, but I found myself like a normal citizen who was not even being respected by the public,” said.
The official also revealed that his county used to receive an amount of 70, 000 SSP monthly but the money was being used for salaries only. Giro noted he wants to go for studies.
For his part, Boma’s minister of local government and law enforcement agency Simon Gain confirmed that the Vertet County Commissioner had resigned. He claimed that the former commission said he wanted to go back to school.
Simon denied lack of services as one of the reasons for Giro’s resignation, saying the former commissioner wanted to work with NGOs.
