The acting director of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in Sudan’s South Darfur State, Salma Adam Ahmed, on Thursday revealed that they have successfully repaired two vaccine storage rooms at the EPI headquarters in Nyala with support from UNICEF.

Regarding the arrival of vaccines, she told Radio Tamazuj that the EPI administration has completed the process of receiving, reviewing, and verifying the vaccines according to the shipment details.

“The safety of the vaccines was confirmed by a specialized team within the administration after they took approximately two weeks to arrive due to the challenging road conditions during the rainy season,” she stated. “All routine vaccination doses have arrived in sufficient quantities for the state’s 21 localities.”

She declared that the second round of the vaccination campaign will commence in the coming days at both fixed and mobile centers in the state capital.

Adam explained that they have submitted their operational plan, which includes logistics and operational details, to supporting entities and partners.

She expressed hope that support will arrive promptly to enable the execution of the second round of the routine vaccination campaign targeting children and women of reproductive age.

It is worth noting that mid-last year, the EPI administration buildings in Nyala city were looted and vandalized by militants during clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) before the latter took firm control of the state at the end of last year.
