The World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the state ministries of health started vaccination of children against six childhood diseases on Tuesday in Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Western Bahr El Ghazal states.
The organization and state health authorities jointly launched the campaign at a ceremony in Aweil featuring the deputy governor Madut Dut Yel and state health minister Tong Atak.
Director General of the Ministry of Health Dr. Edward Ayok said that this is the third round
of vaccinations targeting children under the age of five years throughout five counties.
The official said that the campaign will be overseen by 211 team supervisors and 50 independent monitors.
In a speech in Dinka the director genral appreciated UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
Tong Atak, the health minister, also spoke on the occasion encouraging vaccinators to work hard to go to remote areas. He added that the state wants to eliminate polio.
