A vaccination drive began Tuesday for 70 thousand cattle in Twic East County, Jonglei in South Sudan.
The vaccines were donated by Care International at the request of the county authorities.
County commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj the vaccination campaign will help livestock from both Twic East and Duk counties.
Dau said the vaccination is not due to any specific disaese outbreak but to prevent diseases from affecting cattle in the two counties in the future.
“We have no suspected diseases in the county but we are losing the newly borne cattle especially young one and that’s why we requested the NGOs operating in two counties to assist, and Care International responded positively,” Dau said.
Dau said the vaccination period started Tuesday and will last one month.
He called on cattle owners in the two counties to cooperate and take their cattle for vaccinations at the nearest centers.
