Vaccination campaign for 300,000 cattle in Tonj State

A vaccination drive began last week for 300,000 heads of cows and 200, 000 goats in South Sudan’s Tonj State.

A vaccination drive began last week for 300,000 heads of cows and 200, 000 goats in South Sudan’s Tonj State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Andrea Adup Akoc, Director General at Tonj’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, said the campaign started in former Tonj South and would be extended to former Tonj North and Tonj East Counties.

He further said the ongoing vaccination drive is free of charge, adding that the campaign intends to keep cows and goats healthy and productive in the state.

“We carry out the campaign twice a year. If the cow has protection, it is good. We want our cows to be healthy because if the cow is healthy, people will also be healthy. If the cow is sick, it cannot be milked and no milk will be available, so we want our cows to be healthy so that we can get milk,” he said.

The official pointed out that they are facing difficulties in transportation of vaccines to cattle camps in remote areas.
