The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in the Abyei Area has kicked off on Wednesday. The three-day campaign helps immunize against polio.
EPI Abyei director Yusuf Lal Ayom told Radio Tamazuj that the immunization in Abyei targets about 29,000 children this year.
“The drive targets children who are under five years old across Abyei Administration,” he said.
Ayom commended the role played by organizations Goal and Doctors Without Borders, saying they have provided the necessary requirements for vaccination teams to carry out their work in Abyei, Aniet and elsewhere.
Polio is one of the six childhood diseases that are prevented by the vaccination.
