US special envoy vows to bring peace in Sudan

The US Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Ambassador Donald Booth, on Tuesday visited Sudan’s Blue Nile State where he met the state governor.

The US Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Ambassador Donald Booth, on Tuesday visited Sudan’s Blue Nile State where he met the state governor.

In a brief press statement, Booth said that the meeting discussed a number of issues including education, health and peace in the state.

The US diplomat reiterated his commitment to persuade the armed groups to sign a cessation of hostilities agreement with the Khartoum government in an attempt to bring about peace and stability in Sudan.

Separatly, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, Presidential Assistant, briefed the US envoy on the latest round of peace negotiations that collapsed in Addis Ababa.

 In a Tuesday statement after meetings with the visiting US envoy in the presence of the American charge d’affaires in Khartoum, Ibrahim Mahmoud said the meeting came within the framework of consultations between the government and the United States to reach a lasting peace in Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur States.
