US special envoy meets Sudanese officials over resumption of peace talks

The US Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Ambassador Donald Booth, on Tuesday met with Sudan’s Presidential Assistant Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid in Khartoum where they discussed resumption of peace negotiations with insurgencies.

In a brief press statement, Booth said that the meeting discussed the resumption of peace talks on the Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur regions.

The US diplomat reiterated his keenness to play a bigger role in bringing the viewpoints of the two warring sides closer in order to reach a peace deal.

Separately, the Sudanese government expressed its readiness for full cooperation with the US government in the oil and mining sector, while welcoming the pledge by the US government to put pressure on rebels to join the National Dialogue.

Sudan’s Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman said that his country wants to have good relations with the American government.
