A United States delegation on Monday called on all warring parties in South Sudan to unconditionally declare a ceasefire.

The American delegation headed by the acting director in the office of the US Special envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Paul Sutphin, visited the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on Monday.

The delegation promised to support the South Sudanese warring parties to revive the peace deal which was sign in August 2015.

The American delegation met with South Sudan armed opposition faction (SPLM-IO) members at the movement’s mission in Ethiopia on Monday.

In a statement release after the meeting, the US delegation said the ongoing violence in South Sudan is costing the American government a lot of money and resources.

“Therefore, there must be a political settlement to the conflict for the interests of the people of South Sudan and the international community that supports them”, partly reads the statement.

The delegation also stressed that the warring parties should resume the political dialogue, saying they are ready to support a revision of the peace deal signed in August 2015.
