A new internet center, opened with support from the United States government in South Sudan’s Aweil State, has excited several youth and civil society activists.
The project was opened by Democracy International with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Jacob Mou, a South Sudanese student, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the center will enable financially incapable youth to develop their potentials.
“I am a student in this center. I am happy to be here because this center has helped us, especially those studying online,” he said.
Izzeddin Musa, a local activist, said the programs offered at the center will build the capacity of youth who are unable to study due to poverty.
“I have benefited a lot from online courses. I was unable to study any course, but when I came to the center, I did many online courses and obtained a lot of information,” he said.
Amos Chan Abuok, who completed a diploma course in supply chain and management, said the establishment of the internet center in Aweil enabled him to obtain information online.
Aguer Kawac, the Executive Director for Christian Restore Hope, lauded Democracy International for funding the internet facility.
Democracy International is currently supporting internet centers in several locations, including Aweil, Yambio, Rumbek, Wau, Juba and Torit.
