US concerned about growing number of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan

The US has expressed concern about the dire situation faced by increasing numbers of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan. The Department of State Spokesman released a statement urging the international community to join Washington’s efforts in helping to alleviate suffering and help those affected by the ongoing violence. It said Washington and its partners have begun to respond to the crisis but need more assistance as the needs on the ground are threatening to surpass the international humanitarian community’s capacity to respond. The statement said more than 150,000 Sudanese refugees are now living in South Sudan having fled Blue Nile and South Kordofan. It stressed the urgent need to address the lack of access to water amid growing numbers of refugees, as more people arrive to the camps everyday.
