Two women waylaid and abducted by armed bandits in Uror County of Jonglei State on Sunday morning have been freed by the local youth after a brief confrontation.
Uror County Commissioner Tang Chatim told Radio Tamazuj that the two were rescued after the local youth exchanged fire with the attackers this morning.
“According to the women, they were abducted by four armed men from Pibor and taken up to an area called Panyang. But later, when our youth learned of the incident, they pursued those people and were able to recover the women. Nothing bad was done to the women, only that their belongings were looted,” he said.
The county commissioner condemned the attack and called on all those holding arms to desist from violence for the locals to embark on agriculture.
For his part, the county police inspector, Lt. Colonel, Peter Gatbel Machar, confirmed the abduction and the recovery, and that the area is calm despite the incident.
