Investigations are ongoing into two separate incidents in which two people were killed in parts of Uror County in Jonglei State over the weekend, police said.
The two separate incidents occurred on October 15. In one incident, a man identified as Gatwec Tut Del was killed in a revenge attack in Yuai town. While in another incident, a boy was killed in accidental celebratory gunfire during a traditional dance in Tiam area.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Lt. Col. Peter Gatbel Machar, the county police inspector, said a manhunt is going on for the suspected murders.
“In the revenge killing, the suspect is from Pieri while the deceased is from Pathai. They are all sons of Uror. We are investigating the incident, and we are engaging the SPLA-IO leadership here because Pieri and Pathai areas are controlled by them,” Commissioner Peter said. “In the second incident, in which a 10-year-old boy was accidentally killed, a suspect has been identified, and we are engaging our Duk counterpart because the suspect escaped to Duk.”
Machot Gatluak Kenyak, the Uror County commissioner, said the area is calm despite the incidents and called on the families to be calm as the police investigation continues.
