Uror: Five youth missing after cattle raids found

Five herdsmen who went missing following last week’s cattle raid in Uror County in Jonglei State have been found, local officials said.

Five herdsmen who went missing following last week’s cattle raid in Uror County in Jonglei State have been found, local officials said.

On Tuesday, three people were killed, two injured, and five others went missing, while 13,200 herds of cattle were raided when armed assailants attacked Padiek Payam.

Local officials blamed the attacks on armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), an accusation denied by the GPAA officials.

“Because the clashes continued late Tuesday, five people had gone missing, but they returned the following day after spending the night in the bush. They arrived separately because they were scattered in the bushes,” Machot Gatluak Kenyjak, the Uror county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj over the weekend.

The county commissioner pointed out that 13, 200 animals stolen during the raid are still missing after efforts by the local youth to have them recovered were futile.

For their part, Jonglei State Information Minister John Samuel Manyuon, and Gatluak Reat, the Uror youth leader, called on GPAA authorities to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen animals, warning that such attacks could jeopardize peace efforts in the region.
