Local authorities in Uror County of Jonglei State have held a rally to disseminate the 2018 peace deal amid tensions in parts of the county following the clashes involving rival SPLA-IO factions about two weeks ago.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Tang Chatim, the Uror County commissioner, said: “On Friday, we held a peace rally to update our local populations in Panyok village on the status of the 2018 agreement. We also briefed them that the recent clashes in Pieri on September 30 are an internal SPLA-IO affair. So, they should stand for peace.”

The local official denounced violence and called on the populations there to remain united.

Yien Chuol, a Panyok community leader, said they are committed to peace and appealed to the government to provide them with basic services, saying they have been cut off from the rest of the county since 2013.

For his part, Top Machar, the acting Uror County paramount chief, applauded the commissioner’s peace campaign, and that they will work with the government to maintain peace.
