Two herdsmen were killed and about 80 head of cattle stolen during an attack by armed men in Uror County of Jonglei State on Saturday, officials said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, Uror County Commissioner Machotachot Gatluak Kenyjak said the raid came after a series of attacks in parts of the county since last week, allegedly by youths from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
“Last Thursday, 150 cows were raided from a stream in Paluony. On 14th April, more than 60 cows were raided from Wickol,” he said. “And finally, yesterday in Tiam, they killed two herdsmen and raided 80 cattle,” he said.
Gatluak condemned the attack as provocative and called on Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) authorities to stop their youth from attacking Uror.
Meanwhile, Mahmoud Chuol Peter, the state information ministry director-general, also confirmed the attack and reiterated calls for GPAA authorities to control the cross-border attacks.
For his part, Nyang Korok, the GPAA’s anti-corruption head, said they were not aware of the attack.
