More than ten Upper Nile state government officials sustained various injuries when the two vehicles they were riding in collided in the Manyok area on their way to Longichuk County on Saturday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, the state information minister Saadallah Deng said the government delegation led by Deputy Governor James Tor Monybuny was on an official visit to disseminate peace messages to Longichuk County.
Deng said that the delegation of 12 people included prominent state officials who were in two vehicles.
"The governor's advisor for human rights affairs, the minister of parliamentary affairs, the governor of Longichuk County, the head of the conflict resolution commission, a parliamentarian, six guards, and a driver were injured," he noted.
According to the official, one of the vehicles rammed into the other car causing the accident.
Deng insisted that the accident was purely caused by speeding and not criminal activity, adding that the injured were transferred to the capital Juba for further treatment.
He said the visit has been postponed to a later date due to the accident.
