Upper Nile's Fashoda County starts with treatment of trachoma

People in Kodok, in the county of Fashoda, who are suffering from trachoma are receiving treatment through a campaign organised by the Upper Nile State Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Sight Server Organization (SSO).

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the Fashoda County information officer, Mater El Sheikh Othow, said that the compaign to eliminate trachoma from the state started two weeks ago. The medical team reached in Fashoda this week.

Dr Wel Gai Wel, a member of the medical team, told Radio Tamazuj that his team is providing treatment and operations free of charge.

Welsaid that the trachoma campaign is targeting more than 400 patients in Fashoda County alone and then our team will go to the other areas within upper Nile” he explained.

The doctor noted that until now they have registered 88 trachoma sufferers who are ready to be operated in the coming days.

Wel called upon the infected citizens to report themselves to the health centres in order to benefit from the trachoma treatment before the deadline elapses on 30 November.
