Upper Nile official admits tribal conflict in S Sudan

The Upper Nile State Security Advisor John Ivo Mounto has admitted that the ongoing conflict in South Sudan is tribal.

The Upper Nile State Security Advisor John Ivo Mounto has admitted that the ongoing conflict in South Sudan is tribal.

This comes while addressing a consultative conference of Upper Nile intellectuals at the Council of State on Thursday to prepare for a peace and reconciliation conference in the state.

Ivo accused politicians of instigating ongoing tribal conflict. He added that in Upper Nile the Dinka are found in the Deputy Governor’s house and Shilluk in the State Speaker’s house, whereas the Nuer are staying with the Governor.

“The government has been claiming that there is no tribal conflict between the Nuer, Dinka and Shilluk tribes, but such claims are baseless,” he emphasised.

The state official pointed out that these three tribes in Upper Nile have big internal problems and that they cannot now live together in the state.

Ivo called on the government to admit the truth on the ground, while emphasizing reconciliation so that these tribes can live in peace.

He also urged the Upper Nile MPs to forget about the past and look forward for the sake of peace in South Sudan.
