Upper Nile MPs denounce Governor; refuse endorsement of budget report

Members of the Upper Nile State Legislative Assembly have criticised the state Governor’s speech on budgetary expenditure amidst reports that some MPs boycotted the parliamentary session endorsing the state’s annual budget report.

Hon. Michael DheuGai, a member representing Olang constituency, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that governor’s report was incomplete and lacking detail in a number of areas, particularly concerning the state’s developmental budget.

He claimed that the report did not contain clear accounts of expenditure and that his assessment of the state’s security situation as stable is false.  Adding that the present speaker endorsed the report without following the ‘regulations’ of the assembly, the incident prompted some MPs to refuse their endorsement of the budget report.

Gai also noted that the governor also recently expelled the acting Deputy Speaker of the assembly along with one other MP, prompting a number of their counterparts to withdraw from the session.
