The governors of South Sudan's Upper Nile region have resolved to uphold the cessation of hostilities agreement and ease the movement of civilians across the region.

This came at the end of a forum for the governors of Central Upper Nile, Northern Upper Nile, Maiwut, Latjor, Sobat and Fashoda last week. Some opposition officials in the region also attended the forum.

Fashoda state governor Al Tayib Ajak told Radio Tamazuj last Friday that the governors also banned all forces in the region from moving with arms except for those authorized by their respective units.

"We have agreed as governors and those who violate the agreement will sit together again to determine the mechanism of accountability of violators," Ajak said.

He said they also resolved to enhance the free movement of civilians by both road and water transport.

Ajak said the governors further appealed to all citizens living in displaced camps to return to their homes, assuring them of improved security.
