The new caretaker governor of South Sudan’s Upper Nile state Chol Thon has reshuffled his cabinet shortly after dismissing the cabinet of his predecessor.

Chol, high ranking military officer who hails from the Dinka community in Balliet County, sent home seven former ministers and moved Peter Hoth Tuach from the ministry of information to the state ministry of youth, culture and sports.

Tuach was replaced with Yor Akec, a former commissioner of Akoka County. Finance minister Ayong Lual Awer was replaced with Deng Akuei Kak, former commissioner of Renk County.

Chol is not expected to be in power long as the Compromise Peace Agreement gives the governorship of Upper Nile to the rebels.

Chol was preceded by Simon Kun Puoc, a Nuer from Nasser County, who was sacked last month along with the governors from Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria, and Central Equatoria.
