The Upper Nile Government has pledged to send urgently needed medicines to Panyikang County and other areas, amid reported drug shortages, according to the acting governor.

On Wednesday the Commissioner of Panyikang Gabriel Jaaba Nyawela and other local officials briefed the state government on a number of issues including shortages of medicines, lack of food and flooding in Panyikang County

Gatluak Liphos, Acting Governor of Upper Nile State, told Radio Tamazuj that the state government assured the Panyikang delegation that the state government is standing with them and within a short time medicines that are ready in a store will be loaded and sent to Panyikang County.

“Now we are looking for the boats to load the medicines and then send them to Panyikang if possible today,” Liphos said.

He said also he has directed the head of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in the state to direct humanitarians agencies to help people suffering from lack of food in the county.
