Updated: Juba-Nimule highway attack death toll rises to 5

A second nun, Sr. Regina Roba, from the Catholic Congregation of the Sisters of Sacred Heart yesterday succumbed to her injuries in Nimule hospital after an ambush on the vehicle they were traveling in from Loa Parish near Nimule to Juba.

Three other men, two passengers, and a bodaboda rider, also died during the attack and in the ensuing confusion respectively. The bodaboda rider was run over and killed by a truck that was fleeing the scene of the ambush according to eyewitnesses.

The Central Equatoria State information minister Andrugo Mabe Severio told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday, “The two nuns who were killed, Sr. Regina Roba and Sr. Mary Abbud, these are prominent sisters (nuns) from the Sacred Heart Sisters working in Juba for several years. Some are running the schools and some are running health centers. Sr. Roba was very technical in the area of health and Mary Abbud died as the headmistress of Sacred Heart School in the middle of Juba City.”

The victims were shot at when their convoy of vehicles was on its way from the Loa Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Torit in Nimule, where Loa Mission Centenary celebrations were held over the weekend, was making its way to Juba.
