At least two people were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nimule Payam, an area near the border between South Sudan and Uganda on Sunday evening.
Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Information and Communications Mark Oken Bol confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Monday morning that two people were killed by unknown armed men yesterday in Nimule payam.
Oken said he received a message from Nimule that gunmen in three vehicles pulled up in front of a hotel and opened fire killing two people at around 8:00 p.m. Asked whether the vehicles belong to SPLA, the minister denied this saying they are just normal cars not having connection with the SPLA.
Bol said they are still investigating where the killers came from.
Emilio Igga, Chief Administrative area of Pageri payam, told Radio Miraya: “One of the businessmen is Anthony Gwanya, who is a responsible person and the owner of the lodge. The second person was David Kisiriyara, a prominent member in the community. He is also a very progressive farmer. Then one was Martin Mada, who is also a member of this company which Anthony Gwanya runs. These gunmen came and found these three people sitting then started firing. The third person managed to escape but the two died on spot. Up to now there is no arrest but the security was still trying to set road blocks the whole of last night. There is no arrest yet but investigation is still going on.”
Other sources in Nimule said one of the two killed was related to a former chief who was killed previously in a similar manner. One source said both of the victims belonged to the Madi Community.
