Almak Nimir Company for Roads and Bridges has stopped its work on the al-Fula to Dibebad road after a number of local people attacked the company’s machines last Friday.

The company was carrying out construction of the road, which is about 60 km in length in the western sector of South Kordofan. The road runs from al-Fula in the direction of the railway toward Dibebad in al-Goz Locality, the northernmost part of the state.

A local source told Radio Tamazuj that citizens burned a compacting machine between al-Fula and Kidam, saying the reason was resentment at the company for its failure to fulfill its pledges of providing some services in health, education and water to the citizens of the area.

In other news from the same region, citizens from Babanusa confirmed that the town continues to suffer from a severe water crisis as the price of a barrel of water is between 8 and 10 pounds.

The citizens acknowledged that the main reason for crisis was the breakdown of the sole hand pump which was constructed in the area of the military barracks and which was one of largest, and the main water source in the town.

Radio Tamazuj tried confirm the situation with the local water cooperation authorities in Babanusa, but the officials could not be reached.
