Two people were seriously wounded and one later passed away after a shooting along the Juba-Bor road Monday. The prepetrators were unknown gunmen who suddenly came out from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but it was blamed on armed robbers.
Bilal Hassan, the head of the Public Transport Union for the Juba-Bor road reported that the vehicle loaded with mixed goods was fired on at the border between two states of Central Equatoria and Jonglei. Two people who were seated on the goods in the Land Cruiser pickup were shot and wounded by unknown gunmen at Malithoor at the Central Equatoria border, he said.
He confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Monday that at least one of the two people died upon arrival at Bor Hospital on Saturday evening. Hassan said the other wounded person is receiving medical treatment.
The Juba-Bor road has been considered secure since about January this year and it was even being used by travelers from Lakes State when the Juba-Rumbek road was closed due to tensions three months ago between Mundari and Aliap communities.
Hassan also noted that the car carrying the goods arrived with being looted. Hassan claimed the road between the two states is still calm and the public transports are moving daily from Juba to and from Bor. He called upon the government to improved the road so as to reduce such crime.
