The police in Upper Nile State’s Manyo County have revealed that seven people were killed and four others wounded in an attack by unknown gunmen at a revenue collection point in the Malaha area on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the Director of Police Kiir Diu Deng said among those killed are four revenue authority staff.
“Among the dead are four revenue employees, two soldiers from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, and a Sudanese national,” he said.
He added that a huge sum of money was looted in the attack.
Diu said the police have launched a search for the attackers while noting that the security situation in the county is stable.
For his part, the Paramount Chief of Manyo County, Ramadhan Yor, described the incident as unfortunate and called on the government to conduct conclusive investigations, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Chief Yor said the Malaha border area between South Sudan’s Upper Nile State and the Sudanese White Nile State has not experienced such criminal acts.
