Four people were killed by unknown gunmen in Kajo-Keji County, Central Equatoria State, on Friday, authorities said.
County Commissioner Christopher David Lisi confirmed the incident to Radio Tamazuj, saying the gunmen suspected to be members of the National Salvation Front (NAS), indiscriminately killed the four civilians.
The incident, the Commissioner explained, happened at around 5:30pm when the suspects randomly shot at civilians in Leikor Boma.
Lisi stated that no civilians had been displaced because of the deadly incident and the county authorities, including the army, were still pursuing the perpetrators.
“The army has been going behind the perpetrators and no civilians have been displaced around the area. I have been with them and deployed enough forces that can protect them,” he said.
He urged the people of Kajo-Keji and the public at large to remain calm as the government works to bring the perpetrators to book.
“People must remain calm. We have to bury the dead and continue pursuing the perpetrators and, by good luck, will have them brought to justice,” he said.
The incident followed the visit of Governor Augustino Jadalla to the county where he reiterated the government’s commitment to peace and stability during a rally at the Freedom Square, Mere Town, on October 16, aimed at fostering peace, unity, security and stability.
Efforts to reach the NAS for comment were unsuccessful.
