Students at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor town on Monday held a peaceful demonstration in protest rising cases of insecurity along the Juba-Bor road.

The protests come after unknown armed men wounded a university student in an attack on a commercial vehicle along the Juba-Bor road on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Tamzuj on Monday, several university students called on the relevant authorities to provide security along the road.

“We are not happy with what had happened to our colleague, so we organized the protests to demand protection for the users of the road. The Juba-Bor road is the main lifeline for us as students and citizens,” said Adiya Bela Benjamin, a student at Dr John Garang University.

Another student, Lual Abraham said they organized a peaceful demonstration to show solidarity with the victims of road ambushes.

“Attacks on passenger vehicles have been there for sometimes but the government is always quiet. We organized the protests and blocked the main road to show our anger. We also want to tell South Sudanese that we are suffering, “Lual said.
