Khartoum North Court has convicted a university student of murder for killing a policeman during protests last year.

Khartoum North Court has convicted a university student of murder for killing a policeman during protests last year.

Asim Omar, a student at the University of Khartoum was convicted under article 103 of the Sudanese Penal Code, on charges of premeditated murder punishable by death. Omar was part of a student protest that led to the death of one policeman.

The court further extended its final verdict to September 24, giving the families time for final consultations on whether the convicted should be punished or pardoned.

Soon after the court proceedings, a crowd of activists protested the judge’s decision but they were quickly dispersed by police.
